Dexamethasone ruled out as standalone therapy for chronic subdural hematoma

Late-breaking findings presented at EAN 2021 suggest that dexamethasone alone is not as safe or effective as surgery, for the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma.

Dr Ishita Miah, from Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands, presented interim data from the multicenter DECSA trial (DExamathasone therapy in symptomatic patients with Chronic Subdural hematoma), for which she is coordinating investigator. This trial was terminated early due to safety issues.
