Polygenic scores as a biomarker of fibrillar-tau accumulation in people living with Alzheimer’s disease
Polygenic variation is an established risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease but has been less studied in fibrillar-tau accumulation in relation to dementia symptoms.
At increased amyloid-PET levels, higher polygenic scores (PGS) correlated with higher tau accumulation PET rates. Additional analyses linked PGS with a rapid decrease in cognitive health.
The authors concluded that PGS is a useful biomarker for indicating tau pathology and cognitive decline in people living with Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, PGS provides data that can be utilized in clinical studies.
