Stroke risk in patients with infective endocarditis influenced by subarachnoid hemorrhage

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) increases the risk of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and death in patients with infective endocarditis (IE), a new study suggests.

Patients with IE are known to have a variety of complications, according to Dr Tolga Sursal of New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, USA, presenting at the AAN 2021 conference. Cerebral microbleeds are frequently reported, and cerebral mycotic aneurysm is a rare but serious complication of IE that may lead to SAH.
